Synopsis
1- The Necklace: This story talks about the life of a couple. The woman always thinks about the things she doesn't have so one day his husband gives her a card with an invitation inside to go to a party. The woman feel worried because she doesn't have a dress so his husband buys her one. Then, she wanted jewelery and a friend gave her one. She lost it and bought one that cost 36,000 francs. Their life got worse and one day she saw her friend in the steet and she told her that the necklace was very cheap.
2- Sredni Vashtar: Conradin live with his aunt and she doesn't let him stay with friends or eat too much stweet. Conradin always goes to his shed to play with his chicken, one day he bought a ferret. Her aunt saw that he was playing for too much time at the shet so she decided to kill the chicken. Then, se still saw that she was too much time at the shed so she went back. After that the aunt disappeared and the ferret went freely.
3- The Rocking Horse Winner: This story talks about a family who lives in a big house. They always want to be better than the other neighbours. On day, the mom started to say "we need more money" and the house became haunted by those words. The mother said that they hadn't got luck, so they need more money. Paul, the son, always was at his rocking horse to have more luck. On day, started to bet money on horses and Paul got a lot of money because he always knows who the winner horse was until he got 10,000 dollars. He gave it to his mum and from one day to another he got sick. At that moment his mum realized that the family was more important than the money.
4- The Thieves in the Cupboard: Many years ago, Hubert was going through a forest to go back home when some thieves appeared and took his horse and tied his hands and legs. He got to a house where a delicious Christmas dinner was cooked, there, he heard the thieves that were thinking on stealing at that house so he entered in and told them his story. The family members didn't belive him so he said he was a magician and he was going to appear people in the cupboard. He took some pepper and sudenly they heard some snezees. They got inside and they found the thieves. After that, he went back home.
5- The Lottery Ticket: Ivan and his his wife live in a small house in a city. After having dinner, Ivan sat down on the sofa and started to read the newspaper. There, there were some lottery numbers and his wife said him to see if the number 9499 and the line 26 were there. He said that the number was there and they started to imagine the plans they would do with that money but they ended having a discussion. After that, his wife said him if the line number was the correct one and it actually wasn't so Ivan kissed his wives hand and continued with their life.
Personal Opinion
I liked all the stories because each one teaches us a different thing. For example the third one theach us that are things which are more important than the money, for exaple the family.
