Synopsis

Bud Corliss, the main protagonist of the story, is a gorgeous and smart man whose ambitions are mainly to get rich; what’s more, he would give anything to achieve his goals. At the onset of the novel, Bud returns home after serving his country in World War 2. Even though he lived shocking experiences during his military service, as well as crimes, violations, suicides, terrible explosions among others… he really looks like a common atractive person. Although he seems to have overcome all those bad experiences, it’s a fact that Corliss has some serious mental problems and traumas, and those problems tend to cause him to suffer from psychopathy . As I mentioned, the protagonist would do anything to reach his objective of becoming incredibly rich, and due to that fact, when he comes back from his military service, he meets a beautiful girl called Dorothy Kinship at college. Dorothy is known for being the daughter of a powerful man who possesses industrial businesses. When Bud notices about the power of Dorothy’s family, he quickly devises a plan to make her fall in love with him. On the other hand, Dorothy seems to have found the solution to all her problems when she met Corliss. However, the situation changes when Dorothy tells Bud the fact that she is pregnant, and when the protagonist notices that his father would get angry, he plans a way to murder her, making it look like Dorothy committed suicide. But unfortunately for Bud, at the moment that Ellen Kinship, the sister of Dorothy, returns to the university where his sister was studying before the murder, she understands that the suicide couldn’t be possible because of the letter that Dorothy sent her some days before what happened . In the letter, her sister told her that she was very happy at the moment and she had to speak with her personally to tell her a magnificent news (the pregnancy). She was really confused with the tragedy, so that's why Ellen started her own investigation to solve the case.

 
Personal Opinion

I enjoyed this book since it is a mystery book and it was very interesting . I got hooked very easily, especially for her way of telling the story.
