Synopsis
The commander of the Roman Army of the North, General Maximus, won his last battle in the war against Germania. After that, he returns to his house, a farm in Spain, where his family was waiting for him. But in Rome, there were many serious problems and Emperor Marcus Aurclius had known that he would die soon. Maximus realized that he might perform another duty for the Emperor before he could back home. He knew that it wouldn´t be easy, and he was right. Soon he has lightened for his life again, at first as a prisoner, then as a slave, and finally as a gladiator. The thing that kept Maximus alive was that he would finally meet and kill the man he had hated the most, because he killed his family, the new Emperor, Commodus.
Personal Opinion
In my opinion, it is one of the best book I have ever read. The story is very good but the end of the book left me sad, because he achieved his goals but he died.
