Synopsis
Corliss starts college. There, he meets Dorothy and he flatters her because her father is a rich businessman, and he wants to become rich. However, they keep their relationship secret while he plans his strategy. Then, Dorothy is pregnant and Corliss panics. He doesn't want to assume the responsabilities of a father, and fears that Dorothy's conservative father can break ties with her and ruin his opportunity to become rich. He prepares a plan where convinces Dorothy to write a note that might be a suicide letter. After that, he stages her suicide by throwing her from the highest point of a building. As Dorothy had followed his invention not to tell anyone about their relationship, Corliss gets away with no ties to the suicide.
For many months, Corliss stays out of dating. Suddenly, he is interested in Dorothy's sister, Ellen. Ellen suspects that Dorothy's death was not a suicide. Although this at first is a suspicion, then she connects it to Corliss and his reason for trying to date her. Ellen announces him that she knows he murdered Dorothy, and he admits it. But, Corliss kliss Ellen.
Then, Coliss goes to pursue the third sister, Marion. Meanwhile, Gordon Gant, a DJ who was Ellen's friend while she was finding out Dorothy's real reason of death, was convinced that they where murdered. One night, he goes to Corliss's mother home, where Corliss lives. He finds a document where Corliss has designed his plan to seduce Marion to become wealthy. Gordon shows the document to Marion and her father. Both of them want to find justice.
At the end, Marion, Corliss and Gant go to a cooper factory. While Corliss stands above a tone of molten cooper, they tell him they know his crimes. Corliss is shocked and nervous. Due to this, he falls into the molten cooper.

Personal opinion
I found the book interesting and easy to read because it isn't very long. The actions of the main character surprised me because he was able to kill 3 women just to become rich. Personally, I couldn't live peacefully after having committed those murders. In additon, I liked the ending as Corliss, after all of his crimes, is punished and dies. Here we can see that Karma exists.
