THE MOONSTONE- Wilkie Collins

Synopsis
This book tells the story of a yellow diamond, which was stolen in India by an English soldier. When Gabriel bought it to bring it to her daughter Rachel for her eighteen birthday, he locked it in a bank. One day, when Gabriel was walking among the streets, he realized that three indian men were following him and he thought that that was because of the diamond. On the other hand, Franklin, Rachels cousin, was really in love with her and he came to her birthday party. But, Rachel had another cousin, Godfrey, who also was in love with her. As Godfrey was better than Franklin in all he did, he thought that he really had a chance with her. However, Franklin, also had a pretender, Rossana, but he didn't even know who she was.
The birthday arrived and the diamond disappeared from Rachel's room and she blamed Franklin for that. They decided to call the police and they started looking for the thief. Meanwhile, Rachel left the house and Rossana started to act weirdly. The police thought that the thief was Rachel, because she had to pay some debts. While, they continued looking for Rachel, they found out that Rossana had died near the ocean, but they discovered that she had killed herself.
After Franklin seing what happened, he decided to talk to Rachel and she told him that she saw him taking the diamond. But he couldn't believe that, because he knew that that wasn't true.
Franklin, who couldn't remember what had happened, went to a doctor and reached the conclusion that someone had made him drink something for him to oversleep. They wanted to know who had done that and suddenly they saw a man in disguise collecting the diamond at a bank.
Finally, they decided to follow the man and they discovered that the one who had taken it was Godfrey, who needed the diamond to pay some debts. At the end, the Indian men killed Godfrey and they took the diamond with them back to India.

Personal opinion
I personally liked this story although some words were a bit tough to understand. I've liked how the story was told and the way in which you feel intrigued to know who had stolen the diamond and the way the characters reacts when that happened.
