THE SCARLET LETTER- Nathaniel Hawthorne

SYNOPSIS

Inside the prison of Boston, there is a woman named Hester Prynne, an adulteress who is about to be released so she can be paraded around town showing off the scarlet letter "A" she was forced to wear as proof of her adultery. She has a baby, Pearl, but her husband has been gone for two whole years. The authorities ask her to say who the father is, but she refuses.

While she was being humiliated, the child's father appears in disguise. When Hester returns to prison, Pearl's father comes to see her and asks her not to say anything, and she agrees. She makes up the father's life, and they suspect that the father may be the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale.

Years later, Hester realizes that her husband has been manipulating the person she truly loves, and tells the truth. She decides to go with her beloved to England to build a life together.

PERSONAL OPINION

In my mind, the book was very captivating. How the author tells you the story makes you catch yourself and finish it quickly.

On the other hand, it has difficult words and is not very easy to understand the story.
