Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

 Synopsis

Romeo, one of the main character behave in both ways. Romeo's swift and intense love for Juliet is unexpected. At the start of the play, Romeo was truly in love with a girl named Rosaline. But then, out of the blue, he meets Juliet and instantly falls in love with her. This abrupt change on his feelings is quite impulsive and unexpected. As Mercutio's death is indirectly caused by Romeo's attempt to stop the fight between Mercutio and Tybalt, Romeo feels a profound sense of guilty and responsibility. His reaction is expected because he blames himself for what happened to his friend. This self-blame intensifies his sorrow and anger. The love is an idea that will continue to be essential in the future. The lack of love makes people unhappy. The impulsive love is something that appears in our society. Love makes society advance and evolve. There is a passage that I specially liked where Romeo expresses his sorrow over Rosaline. In this passage the author doesn't describe the setting but it does capture the emotions perfectly. In the passage, Romeo expresses his thoughts and feelings about love and its complications. He does it by using metaphors and other literary figures in order that will give truthfulness to the play. If I could interview the author I would ask him is to lengthen and develop the story a little more. I speculate that his answer would be no, as the play would lose its essence.

Personal Opinion:

To be honest I liked the whole reading. I am passionate about love stories. But what I liked the most were the secret wedding that the Friar Laurence officiates and the end of story. Even though it ends in tragedy I love how Romeo drinks the poison and end dies by Juliet's side when he realises that he can't live without her. That passionate love astonished me.
