Oscar Wilde Short Stories / The Young King-Oscar Wilde

Synopsis

The daughter of a king was pregnant and her husband left her. The king didn’t approve of his daughter. When her little boy was born, at night the king’s noblemen kidnapped the kid and they gave him to a poor couple in the woods, along with money. They raised him and when he turned 16, he was asked to be the heir of the throne.

Personal Opinion

From my point of view, this short story is very thoughtful. The story takes a look at both sides of the world, poor people and rich people. The 16 year old king was raised by a goat-herd and his wife in the woods and then brought to the castle, to be the next king. He lived in both worlds and his outlook of life changed when he became king. I believe that all kings should be raised this way.
