Synopsis
Red dog belonged to the Collins family, composed by Jack and Maureen Collins both wife and husband. They used to live in a small cabin and Tally, that's how they used to call him, was always putting dirt in their house. Tally, didn't realise that what he was doing was wrong because Maureen talked to him with her soft voice without shouting, so he wasn't able to realise that. Tally liked eating and exploring his surroundings by following other little animals such as: bunnies and rats, he would spend all his days searching for something to capture and he wouldn't come home until evening, therefore, that behaviour sometimes worried the couple. After some years, they had to move to another town, more specifically, from Paraburdoo to Dampier, it was a very long journey. In Dampier, he lived with the Collins but he would spend all his days outside exploring the new town, that's why, after a few weeks, he became a well known dog, people used to call him "Red dog" because of his reddish fur. At the beach, while the couple was sunbathing we stole a big steak from another person, who started shouting to their dog, as a result, Tally run away and scaped from them. After a few days, the Collins realised that he was never coming home again, Tally found the outside world too interesting to just live in one place, so he moved around all the town. Tally found a neighbourhood where a lot of hardworking men used to live, they would come back from work and feed him. They all called him "Red dog", consequently, Red met John, a likeable and loving man who used to live around there, Red really liked him and he would always follow him. John always used a bus to go to his work and Red chose a sit behind the driver, after a while, everyone realised that, that place belonged to him. Suddenly, a young woman tried to sit in his place and he tried to get her out, but she didn't want to, so his attempts didn't work. Finally, they got long and he would also like her. John and Nancy, also started getting along and he asked her out, they would go the car cinema, without Red. When they met, they went in the car and they started watching the film, he tried various times to kiss and cuddle her, everything was going fine but suddenly, Red appeared and "ruined" the moment for John, he got a little bit annoyed but they didn't mind a the end. John and his friends, went out a few nights later, he drank a little too much, as result of that, while he was driving his motorbike he fell down of a cliff and he got very injured, consequently, he died alone. The next day, all his friends and workmates started feeling worried about him because he would always notify them, after a few hours, they found him dead down the cliff, they all felt guilty and sick instantly. Red, didn't know exactly what happened to John but he would spend all his days searching for him, all the men, would feel bad for him because they knew that he wouldn't be able to find John. One day, Nancy and Patsy, took him to take a ride in their caravan and they arrived to a beach, and again, they lost Red, they didn't know where he was; some days later, they found Red waiting in their caravan. The three women used to live in a caravan park and there weren't allowed any dogs so they would always have arguments with the owners of the park. One night, the owners decided to kick off their caravan because they were sick off their dog, all the workers heard about that problem so they went to the park to help them, finally, the owners of the park scaped from there. Some years later, the shoot Red dog, he was only 8 years old and he started having convulsions, the people who found him drove him to the vet but they couldn't help him so they pricked him, unfortunately, after that, Red started failing his walk and lost his spark. They all realised that he wouldn't live longer like that so they decided to sacrifice him for his good. Nowadays, they still save his necklace and they made a sculpture on his honour.
Personal Opinion
From my point of view, this book is very entertaining because it contains a lot of adventurous and enjoyable tales. My favourite one is when Red Dog meets Nancy in the bus, I loved that story because I really liked the chemistry between them two. I really recommend this book to all those people who enjoy stories about dogs and people who used to work years ago in Australia.
