A FOREIGNER IN NEW YORK-Ramon Ybarra Rubio

 

SYNOPSIS: Antonio receives a call from his friend Jason saying that he has to visit him in New York. The last time they had seen each other was more than two years before, when Antonio was in his last year of journalism and English at Salamanca University. Jason is working as a waiter like every other unemployed actor, but at leats he is living his dream.

Antonio decides to call the magazine which he works for and proposes writing an article about New York City at Christmas time and his boss thinks it's a good idea.

In New York, Antonio meets Elaine, a friend of Jason. They both work as waiters in the same restaurant. She is studying at New York University and she is finishing her doctoral thesis on the history of New York City. One day, he and Elaine go to see the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. Apart from that, they also go to see a NBA match. In addition, Antonio falls in love with Elaine. On the second of January, Antonio goes back to Spain.

At the beginning of March, he receives a phone call from the editor of the travel magazine saying that the article was amazing. Then, Antonio proposes to the editor writing a second article on New York City, but now in the summer.

When he rrives in New York, Elaine is waiting for him. There, they do many activities. For instance, one day they meet Antonio Banderas at Central Park.
Finally, back in Spain, Elaine usually comes to visit him. The articles have been such a success that Antonio's editor starts calling him her "star writer".

PERSONAL OPINION: I really liked this book because it tells a simple but beautiful story about the adventures of Antonio. Besides, it gives you the opportunity to get to know New York City.
