THE MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE by EDGAR ALAN POE

SYNOPSIS

The character in this reading that behaves in an unexpected way is the killer of the crime which is an escaped orangutan. This revelation surprises the readers because in the typical mystery stories it is most common to find a person that kills two innocent girls. However, in this reading, the violent act was committed by an animal which makes it an unexpected character. Auguste Dupin, the story's protagonist, is a very analytical and observant detective. His ability to think critically and deduce from minimal evidence has become an example for many detectives. This type of character, who has an interest and attitude about thees crimes or myteries will likely continue to be significant in the future. The passage from the reading where the author does an effective job describing the setting is in the page 15. “There has never been a crime in Paris as mysterious as this one. How did murderer or murderers escape from the house? The door to the room was locked, the windows were fastened…” If I could interview the author I would ask him if he had thought of becoming a policeman or a detective someday. I believe that his response would be definitely yes. However, his circumstances didn’t let him try.

PERSONAL OPINION
